Prabhu gets emotional at Appa’s 85th birth anniversary

The 85th birthday celebration of the late Nadigar Thilagam Sivaji Ganesan that took place on October 1 in the city was marked with emotional speeches, acts of charity and awards for the veterans. Organised by Ramkumar, Prabhu and Giri Shanmugam of Sivaji Prabhu Charitable Trust, the Dr Sivaji Ganesan Memorial Awards were given to producer/director Muktha V. Srinivasan, director C.V. Rajendran, writer Kalaiganam, actress Manorama, playback singer L.R. Easwari and Villupaattu exponent Subbu Arumugam.

The thespian’s son, actor Prabhu, went emotional while addressing the crowd and literally broke down on the stage, recalling his memories with his dear ‘Appa’.“Till the time I entered the film industry, I never knew what acting was all about and how Appa, who was a veteran then, would have worked so hard to reach that iconic status. We have worked together in many films. He is one actor who always encourages his co-stars to perform well. He would say, ‘Unless you give your best shot, I wouldn’t be able to get motivated to do better’.

That was his concern with everyone in the frame. And I have heard him talking to my mother at home after the day’s shoot. He would say, ‘You know Kamala, Nagesh did a great job today. Manorama was simply superb’. He always believed that there could be competition among actors, but not jealousy. When thousands of Appa’s fans came to our house this morning to pay their respects to the legend, I could see in their eyes the hope that ‘the actor comes alive in magical moments’. I wish this too and I know he is immortal and lives in the hearts of millions of his fans,” Prabhu said. PAGES Tags:
