B Saroja Devi in the list of greatest Indian actresses ever

She was one of the most sought after actress in the south film industry with a successful run in Kannada, Tamil and Telugu films. Saroja Devi has impressed many by her talent and now the yester year actress finds herself in the list of the greatest Indian actresses ever on occasion of 100 years of cinema.

Saroja worked for more than 50 years in the different film industry and had done 200 films with the top actors of the time, namely - Sivaji Ganeshan, NTR, Dr Rajendra Kumar, MGR, among others. 

She was first spotted by BR Krishnamurthy when she was singing at a function at the age of 13. Saroja's father was very encouraging and he asked her to learn dance who also motivated her to take up films when offers started pouring in. Saroja Devi is referred to as Abinaya Saraswathi by Kannada film industry. She has been one of the most successful actresses in the history of Indian cinema and was at her peak of her career in the period 1958-85.
