Bharat Kalachar announces awardees for Kamalhaasan Sarojadevi

CHENNAI: The Bharat Kalachar on Thursday announced its list of awardees for 2009 and the awards will be presented on December 11, the inaugural day of the 23rd Margazhi Mahotsav.

According to a release from Bharat Kalachar Chairman Mrs.Y.G. Parthasarathy and secretary Y.Gee. Mahendra, vocalist T.V. Sankaranarayanan will be conferred the Gnana Kala Bharathi award for his outstanding service in the field of classical Carnatic music. Actor Kamal Haasan will get the Viswa Kala Bharathi for his outstanding performance in the field of Tamil cinema and dance, which had won him global recognition.

Documentary on Gemini Ganesan to be released soon

Gemini Ganesandocumentary is being made on the late top actor Gemini Ganesan, who dominated Tamil filmdom for more than five decades, and it would be released soon. Produced in English, Tamil and Telugu, the 90-minute film is produced by Ganesan's daughter Kamala Selvaraj and directed by Venkatesh.

The documentary has 30 eminent film personalities narrating their experiences of working with the actor, Kamala Selvaraj said. "The film dwells on my father's personal and professional life. It took more than six months to produce this documentary," she added. Fondly known as 'Kadhal Mannan' (King of Romance), Ganesan had acted in several box-office hits like Pava Mannippu, Pasa Malar, Parthal Pasi Theerum,, Aadi Perukku, Konjum Salangai, Irukodugal, Shanti Nilayam, Vanji Kottai Valipan, Thein Nilavu, Yaar Paiyan, Maya Bazaar,Manampol Mangalyam, Kolathur Kannamma, Parthiban Kanavu , etc.

Film Industry imposes ban on Vikatan!

All the trade bodies including the film artist's union imposed a ban on renowned Tamil magazine Aananda Vikatan to making films or publishing interviews or news items about actors in future. This is because of the magazine's 'mischeivious attitude' over publish an article about legendary heroes of the Tamil film industry, MGR and Sivaji Ganesan written by write Jayamohan.

A couple of weeks ago, Aanada Vikatan carried a cover story about MGR and Sivaji written by Jayamohan. Actually it was not written for Vikatan. The author just published that article in his private, less viewing blog. But Vikatan lifted the item from that blog and gave the importance of lead story to that and even printed thousands of posters to give publicity for the same. Dr. Saroja Devi awards for veteran awards

BANGALORE: The first ‘Padma Bhushan Dr. B. Saroja Devi National Awards' were given away at a star-studded event at the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan here on Sunday. Veteran actors Anjali Devi, Jamuna Ramana Rao and Harini S. Rao were felicitated by Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa with a cash prize of Rs. 1 lakh and a citation among other things. Admitting that he was an admirer of actors of yesteryear, Mr. Yeddyurappa praised Ms. Saroja for doing what the Government should have done. “They are rare actors and it is time we gave them something,” he said.
