Veteran actor Nagesh passes away

Veteran actor Nagesh passed away this morning at a City Hospital in Chennai after prolonged illness. He was 75. Nagesh (Born on September 27, 1933) was a veteran Indian comedian actor in Kollywood who had acted in more than 1000 films. He was more than a comedian and showed his versatility in different kind of roles with ease and professional approach. As a character artiste, he moved the viewers to tears with his sensitive performance in films like Neer Kumizhi, Yarukkaga Azhuthan and Edhir Neechal.

Born as Gunddu Rao, Nagesh was born to Kannada speaking Brahmin Madhwa parents. He walked out of his house telling his parents that he would be back only after establishing himself in some career. In Chennai, he stayed in a one-room bed-sit at West Mambalam (then a remote area) with lyricist Vaali and veteran actor Srikanth. He found a small time job in the Railways but that didn't satisfy him.

Kalaimamani awards for Dr Sarojadevi 

CHENNAI: At a time when the city is basking in the success of its own Mozart’s victory at the Oscars, it is raining awards here with the Tamil Nadu government on Tuesday announcing Kalaimamani awards for Saroja Devi and others who have made a significant contribution to their respective fields. The awards are given by the Tamil Nadu Iyal Isai Nataka Mantram. Aaduthurai-based Sree Sankaranarayana Sabha has been selected for the best theatre group and Tamil Isai Mantram in Thiruvaiyaru the best art institution. Some of the recipients of the award expressed their joy and excitement.

For Saroja Devi, the award came as a heartening recognition from Tamil fans and industry. “When Kamal Hassan called me and informed this, it was unbelievable. I never expect awards. But, every time I receive it, it feels great for I am being honoured for doing what I love. This award is special to me and I think it is purely by the grace of God. It is also wonderful to see so many young talents being recognised through this award,” she said.

Good Coincidence in Awards to DR Devi

The yesteryears actress of high caliber Dr B Saroja Devi who was heroine to both N.T.Rama Rao and Rajakumar in many films besides being heroine to M.G.Ramachandran, Shivaji Ganeshan, Gemini Ganeshan, Dilip Kumar, Kalyankumar and others gets a distinction. Within a few days gap the two states – Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh announced awards for this leading lady Dr B Saroja Devi the Padmabushan award winner. Both the awards instituted in the names of heroes of the actress coming to her made her extremely happy.

The actress of NTR films and Dr Rajakumar films gets the NTR award and Dr Rajakumar award almost at the same time. After the announcement of Dr Rajakumar ward for her by the 2008-2009 state award committee a few days later this 170 films plus actress in various languages get the NTR the prestigious award from Andhra Pradesh government.

Dr Rajakumar award is Rs.2 lakhs while NTR award is Rs.5 lakhs for Dr Devi. A well deserved honor for this reputed actress who always look gleeful. Dr B Saroja Devi debut in Telugu was in 1957 opposite NTR garu. For the Kannada film ‘Mahakavi Kalidasa’ Ku Ra Si and Honnapa Bhagavathar were mentors for De Devi. After this she got opportunity in Pandu Ranga Mahatme of NTR, Adimai Penn of MGR, Paigam of Gemini Vasan. It is a great coincidence for top ranking film personality in Kannada, Telugu and Tamil cinema Dr B Saroja Devi. She got Dr Rajakumar and NTR awards almost in a week time

Saroja Devi gets N T Rama Rao National Film Award

Yesteryear actress B Saroja Devi has been chosen for the prestigious N T Rama Rao National Film Award for 2009. Noted director K Raghavendra Rao has been chosen for the B N Reddy National Film Award while media baron and film producer Ch Ramoji Rao has been chosen for the Nagireddy- Chakrapani National Award instituted by the Andhra Pradesh. Another producer K Raghava has been chosen for the Raghupati Venkaiah Award, the Telugu equivalent of Dada Saheb Phalke Award. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy will present the awards at a function here on December 12.

Born in Karnataka, 72-year-old Saroja Devi has acted in about 170 films in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Hindi and won several honours at the state and the national level. She was conferred the Padma Bhushan in 1992.

B Sarojadevi to get the Doctorate

Multilingual actress B.Saroja Devi wants to dedicate the honourary doctorate degree that she would received from the Bangalore University in January to her husband Late Sri Harsha. According to her Harsha had encouraged her to continue in films and also had a strong influence on her.

He was a learned person, an Engineer by profession. He knew many things, while I was not so well educated. He would have been happy if he were alive today. I learnt many things from him. He looked at life positively and also had a helping nature. While I learnt discipline from my parents, it was Harsha who taught me to take life as it comes and look forward for positive developments’ she told "Chitraloka' portal
